Daughters of Bayreuth director submit proposal for Wagner festival

BERLIN — A spokesman for the Richard Wagner festival in Bayreuth says the daughters of director Wolfgang Wagner have submitted a proposal outlining their vision for a future co-leadership of the annual opera event.

The question of who might succeed Wagner in organizing the festival is one of several issues being discussed by the festival foundation's board when it meets Tuesday.

Spokesman Peter Emmerich said Monday that Eva Wagner-Pasquier and her half-sister Katharina Wagner had given their proposal to the board.

Wagner has led the festival since 1951 and this month indicated he may step aside so his daughters can take over.
