Runje out of qualifier due to broken finger

ZAGREB, Croatia — Croatia goalkeeper Vedran Runje was ruled out Thursday from the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine due to a broken finger.

Coach Slaven Bilic had reportedly planned to use Runje for Saturday's game instead of Stipe Pletikosa, who was heavily criticized after England beat Croatia 4-1 in Zagreb last month.

Runje was hurt during Thursday's training. It was not immediately clear when he would recover. Bilic is not expected to replace him, counting instead on Pletikosa and rookie Danijel Subasic.
